Gattonside Suspension Bridge

in Melrose, near Galashiels, Scottish Borders
This was an iron suspension footbridge built in 1825-6 by Redpath, Brown and Co of Edinburgh. Masonry by J. and T. Smith of Darnock.[1]
It was drastically altered in 1991 by replacing the deck and railings with a stiff welded steel deck/parapet structure, adding new suspension chains, hangers, saddles, and anchorages. The original stone towers are still used, and the original chains are still present, supported by the new chains.
