The X-ray department of Watson and Sons was incorporated in a separate subsidiary, Watson and Sons (Electro-Medical) Ltd.
1954 Watson and Sons amalgamated with A. E. Dean and Co becoming part of GEC Medical
1971 Elliott Medical Automation was a member company of GEC Medical Equipment[2]
1981 GEC acquired Picker Corporation, an American manufacturer of medical imaging equipment
Picker was then merged with the medical instrument division of Cambridge Instrument Co, GEC Medical, and American Optical to form Picker International, 80 percent owned by GEC and 20 percent by Cambridge Instruments.[3]
1987 GEC and Philips planned to form a joint venture in medical imaging, GEC contributing Picker International and £60 Million[4] but talks broke down after 10 months.
1989 The Medical Equipment business of GEC consisted of Picker International Inc which specialised in high technology medical diagnostic imaging equipment and health care products.[5]
1999 Company name changed to Marconi Medical Systems.
2001 Marconi Medical Systems was purchased by Philips Electronics
