Major FREDERICK MALLALIEU, R.E.M.E., whose death occurred on 27th March 1946, at the early age of forty, was connected with the London, Midland and Scottish Railway during the whole of his professional career. After serving his apprenticeship at Derby from 1921 to 1926, he became a fitter, but two years later he was transferred to the inspection department.
In 1930 he entered the works drawing office where he remained for a similar period. His next position, which he held for seven years was that of central ordering assistant. In 1939 he was gazetted to the R.A.O.C., and rose to the rank of Major. He saw service abroad, being mentioned in dispatches in 1945 while serving with the R.E.M.E.
Major Mallalieu was elected a Graduate of the Institution in 1930 and was transferred to Associate Membership in 1938.
