FREDERICK GEORGE RICHARD WILKINS entered H.M. Dockyard School at Portsmouth in 1908, and gained a Whitworth Exhibition in 1912.
Later he attended the Imperial College, University of London, and in 1921 gained the degree of B.Sc. (Eng.) with first class honours.
In the intervening period he served a six years' apprenticeship at Portsmouth Dockyard, whilst during the War years he was a draughtsman in the engineering drawing office at the Dockyard, and carried out gunnery control tests.
In 1919 he took up teaching, becoming a demonstrator in mechanics at the Imperial College and a lecturer at the Borough Polytechnic Institute.
In 1926 he became senior lecturer in engineering at the Royal School of Mines, and he was appointed Principal of York Technical Institute (engineering and building trades) shortly before bis death on 25th April 1929.
Mr. Wilkins became an Associate Member of the Institution in 1923.
