"FREDERICK AUGUSTINE SMITH, was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1927, and died on 25th December 1951 at the age of sixty-six.
He was educated at Manchester College of Technology and served an apprenticeship with Sharples and Company, Ltd., Manchester, from 1879 to 1902. For the next seventeen years he held in succession the positions of leading fitter, foreman and draughtsman and designer to the Westinghouse Company, Ltd., in the same city. After a brief period as leading mechanical draughtsman to Johnson and Phillips, Ltd., electrical and mechanical engineers, London, he took up an appointment as assistant manager to Ilkeston and Heanor Water Board, Derbyshire, in the service of which he remained for many years."
