Frederick Arnold Stead (1890-1930)

Frederick Arnold Stead was born in 1890 and was the eldest son of the famous metallurgist, Dr. J. E. Stead.
He was educated at Mill Hill School and Armstrong College, Newcastle-on-Tyne, after which he joined the firm of Consulting Metallurgists established by his father.
During the war he did valuable work in the Chemical Research Department of Woolwich Arsenal. Apart from his metallurgical work, he did a great deal of useful work in connexion with the Boy Scout movement, and was for many years Assistant County Commissioner for the North Riding of Yorkshire. He died on 8th October 1930, at the age of 40.
He was elected a Member of the Institution of Automobile Engineers in 1924.
