"FREDERICK ALBERT BIRCHER, whose untimely death occurred as the result of a motor accident on 28th September 1951, at the early age of forty-two, was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1941. He was educated at Acton Technical School and served an apprenticeship from 1925 to 1930 with the Power Plant Company, Ltd., West Drayton, Middlesex, where he continued as a tool designer for a further five years. He then secured a post as draughtsman to C. J. Fitzpatrick and Company, Ltd., Acton, where he remained until 1946 when he became senior mechanical draughtsman to B. and P. Swift, Ltd., engineers. His final appointment, which dated from 1948, was also in London and was in the drawing office of Remax, Ltd., makers of automobile and electrical equipment. Cdr. (E.)
