Educated at Southport Grammar School and Christchurch School.

Trained in engineering in his father's motor business

WWI Aeronautical Inspection Department

Post-WWI: joined Austin's, Vulcan's, Beardmore's, National Aircraft Factory and Crossley's successively.

1919 Joined Edmunds Walker and Co.
