1871 Living at 119 Alston Street, Ladywood, Birmingham: Joseph Payne (age 37 born Clodd Oak, Hereford), Brass Founder employing 11 men and 2 boys. With his wife Emily E. Payne (age 33 born Birmingham) and their three children; Herbert W. Payne (age 4 born Birmingham); Rose E. Payne (age 2 born Birmingham); and Frank H. Payne (age 1 born Birmingham). One servant.[1]
