FRANCIS JOHN LAWLOR, whose death took place on 11th August 1935, at the age of forty, had an extensive experience in the operation and inspection of commercial motor vehicles. For the last five years of his life he was an inspector in the Newcastle upon Tyne service department of Messrs. Armstrong-Saurer Commercial Vehicles, Ltd.
He was born in Hampstead and received his technical education from 1909 to 1911 at Paddington Technical Institute. In the following year he commenced a three years' apprenticeship in the Neasden works of the Metropolitan Railway and served both in the steam and electric locomotive shops.
From 1915 until his appointment with Messrs.
