Francis Wilfred Tunnadine
1896 born on 20 September 1896.
c.1901 Attended the British School at Arnold in Nottinghamshire
c.1910 Studied Mathematics and English with a private tutor.
1914 Joined the Marconi Company's School, Strand, London
1916 Served on several HM Auxiliary Fleet Reserve ships.
Post-WWI returned to Marconi's.
1922 Appointed 3rd Radio Officer on the White Star Liner RMS Homeric, where he assisted in maintenance repair and operation of medium and long wave transmitters and receivers and Marconi-Bellini-Posi direction finders.
1924 he was promoted to 2nd Radio Officer on the RMS Olympic
1931 joined the Canadian Pacific Steamships' SS Empress of Britain as 2nd Radio Officer.
1936 he left the SS Empress of Britain
1937 Joined Mr D. Winton Thorpe, Consulting Engineer as Assistant Engineer.
1938 he became Chief Assistant
1939 he went into partnership as Winton Thorpe, Tunnadine and Partners.
He remained in the firm for the rest of his life. His work was as consulting engineer for electrical and mechanical services in public buildings, factories, office blocks and some private hosues. Among the notable places he worked on were St George's Chapel, Windsor; Canterbury Cathedral; Brompton Oratory and the new Grocers' Hall in Princes Street, London.
The firm's offices were for a long time in Artillery Mansions, Victoria, but the business was moved to Mr Tunnadine's house at 73 Waddington Way, Upper Norwood London SE19 in the mid 1970s.
1983 Died. He was married and had one daughter.
