Eugene Beauhamais Carless (c1815-1895) of Carless, Capel and Leonard

1854 Having carried on business in copartnership with Daniel William Blyth at No. 7, Cambridge-road, Mile End, Middlesex, as Saffflower Carmine Makers and Fancy Paper Colorers, under the style of Blyth and Carless, all their joint estate and effects were assigned to William Watson and Joseph William Bennett, upon trust for their joint creditors[5]
1855 of Stepney, patent on "Improvements in the manufacture of paper cloth, known as artificial leather, and in coating or covering the surface thereof with colouring matter, said colouring process being also adapted to the colouring or staining of paper[6]
1855 Patent to Eugene Carless, of the East London Works, Mile End, in the county of Middlesex, for the invention of "improvements in the manufacture of artificial leather suitable for book binding and other purposes."[7]
1859 Established [8] a business in distilling and refining mineral oil at a plant in Hackney Wick.
1860 Patent to Eugene Carless, of Bow Common, in the county of Middlesex, for the invention of "improvements in the manufacture of all kinds of candles, for the purpose of rendering them free from guttering."[9]

1872 Dissolution of the partnership between Carless and Capel as manufacturing chemists[13] that was replaced with a new partnership Carless, Capel and Leonard, with Carless as works manager.
1873 Eugene Carless of Leytonstone, in the county of Essex, carrying on business at No. 1, Pavement, West Ham-lane, Stratford, and at No. 38, Bramley-road, Notting Hill, in the county of Middlesex, trading at both places as Edwards and Co., Oil and Colour Man., was adjudged bankrupt[14]
1877 Patent to Eugene Carless, of Hackney Wick, in the county of Middlesex, Chemist, for the invention of "a new or improved method of, and apparatus for, filling casks and other vessels with liquids."[15]
