1874 Born in Lewisham the son of Edward Cobbold Steel, a Clerk.

1894 Married at Huddersfield to Gertrude Graham

1911 Living at 17 Lansdowne Road, Croydon: Ernest John Steel (age 37 born Lewisham), Motor Agent - Employer. With his wife Gertrude Steel (age 38 born Wakefield) and their three children; Douglas Graham Steel (age 16 born Coventry); Harold Chas Steel (age 11 born Thornton Heath); and Frances Nora Steel (age 4 born Thornton Heath). Also his aunt Emily Jane Steel (age 71 born Lewisham), Spinster. One servant.[1]
