1931 Obituary 
EDWARD SAMUEL COWEN, whose death occurred in his eightieth year on 5th August 1931, at Nottingham, where he was born, entered his father's works at the age of 17, and was made a partner when only 22 years of age.
He remained with the firm, Messrs. G. R. Cowen and Company, throughout his engineering career.
Much of his spare time was devoted to music, architecture, and archaeological research. He possessed a notable collection of old prints, pictures, and books relating to the history of Nottingham.
Mr. Cowen was one of the oldest surviving Members of the Institution, which he joined so long ago as 1875.
