EDWARD FUHRMANN CLARKE, who died on the 19th February, 1922, was born on the 17th November, 1857, and received his education at Shrewsbury School.
After serving his apprenticeship from 1873 to 1876 with the North-Eastern Railway Co., he obtained an appointment on the New Zealand Government Railways, later being placed in charge of the installation of their new locomotive works at Petone.
In 1882 be joined the Wellington Woollen Manufacturing Co., Ltd., of New Zealand, and was responsible for the erection of their buildings, plant and machinery, including a complete electric lighting installation.
In 1886 he had charge of the installation of the electric lighting plant for the New Zealand Government printing works, and afterwards took up consulting, work in Wellington.
In 1889 he returned to England and engaged in experimental work in connection with refrigerating machinery, and in 1893 commenced practice in Birmingham as a consulting engineer.
He was appointed consulting engineer to the North of Ireland Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., in 1914, and in 1915 was appointed in a similar capacity to the Sutton Coldfield Electricity Works.
He was elected a Member of the Institution in 1918.
