EDWARD AUGUSTUS WATSON was born at Clones, Ireland, on 23rd August 1881, and was educated privately.
He began his engineering career in the shops of the American Locomotive Co., at Schenectady, United States, and later went to the Altoona Works of the Pennsylvania Railroad Co.
Returning to England, he joined the Great Western Railway, being engaged at their Swindon Works as Assistant Works Manager, which post he held for four years.
In 1911 he took up the position of Works Manager at the Great Southern and Western Railway Co.'s Works at Inchicore, Dublin, and subsequently became Locomotive, Carriage and Wagon Superintendent.
He relinquished this position in November 1921, on accepting the post of General Manager of Messrs. Beyer, Peacock and Co., Ltd., Gorton, Manchester.
His death took place on 25th August 1922, at the age of forty-one, after a long illness.
He became a Member of this Institution in 1915.
