1880 Company set up by Thomas Edison to construct generating stations in New York City.

1882 Its first central generating station, located on Pearl Street in lower Manhattan, opened on September 4.

The company was the prototype for other local illuminating companies that were established in the United States during the 1880s.

1901 The company was consolidated with the New York Gas and Electric Light, Heat and Power Company to become the New York Edison Company.

1936 the name of the company was changed to the Consolidated Edison Company of New York, Inc.
