1871 Living at 21 Siddall Road, Derby: Draper Ottewell (age 40 born Marleyshire, Derby), Brass Founder Foreman. With his wife Mary Ottewell (age 37 born Mddx.) and their children Alfred D. Ottewell (age 15 born Derby), a Draughtsman; Henry Ottewell (age 12 born Derby); Albert Ottewell (age 9 born Derby); and Ada Mary Ottewell (age 5 born Derby). One boarder and one servant[1]

On the retirement of Sir John Smith, (founder of the firm), Draper Ottewell took over the business of John Smith and Co.
