1866 Business formed jointly by James Currie and his brother, Donald Currie.
1874 Donald Currie formed Castle Packets Company which survived with help from a colonial government subsidy to encourage competition for the mail contracts.
1877 The Castle company was reorganized, with Donald Currie himself as the largest shareholder, and his family enterprise of Donald Currie and Co as its managers.
1877 John Napier, after retiring from the shipyard, became a director of the company. He had designed several steamers for the company whilst working for his family's business.
1880 SS Kinfauns Castle was the first steel ocean mail steamer built for the Donald Currie Line
1881 The Castle Mail Packets Co Ltd was floated publicly with Donald Currie as manager in perpetuity.
1894 Model of the company's RMS Dunottar Castle was shown by Fairfield Shipbuilding and Engineering Co[1]
1900 Became managers of the new Union-Castle Line
