DAVID SIMS REES died at Maesteg on July 17, 1902, aged forty-three years. He settled at Maesteg about twenty-seven years ago, being at the time a pupil under Mr. James Barrow, mining engineer to the old Llynvi Iron and Coal Company, after which he acted as surveyor for the same company.
When the Colgnant pit was sunk he was the superintendent and manager of the works. He afterwards became manager of the Park Slip colliery, London, and of the Wyndham colliery, Ogmore Vale.
About seven years ago he was given the appointment of chief mining engineer under North's Navigation Company.
He was elected a member of the Iron and Steel Institute in May 1902.
