1856 'IRON CASTING. On Saturday a very large piece of casting was executed at the foundry of the Cork Steam Ship Company, the Brickfields. It was a screw for the steamer Pelican, 12 feet long, 4 feet wide, at the broadest part of the wings, and a ton and a half weight. Until very lately, casting on such an extensive scale has not been executed at Cork, but within the last few months this enterprising company have added considerably to their foundry concerns, which will enable them to complete all the machinery for their steamers in Cork, instead of having it done in Scotland as hereiofore. This bodes well for the increasing prosperity of our city, and reflects the highest credit on the Cork Steam Ship Company.'
