Claude de Jouffroy d'Abbans (Claude François Dorothée de Jouffroy d'Abbans)

French steamboat pioneer.

Born 30 September 1751 in Roches-sur-Rognon (Roches-Bettaincourt), Champagne.

Died 18 July 1832 in Paris.

1776 Developed a 13-metre steamboat, the Palmipède, which sailed on the Doubs in June and July 1776.

1783 Made a paddle steamer named the Pyroscaphe, which was demonstrated on the Saône.
