1895/6 The Chester-le-Street Gas Company was formed.

The gasworks were in Pelton Fell Road.

1924 The company was acquired by the Newcastle and Gateshead Gas Co.

Gas production ceased on a supply being taken from the Lambton coke ovens.

c.1960 Retained as a gasholder station until circa 1960.
