The Chemical Society was formed in 1841. [1]

One of the Societies aims was to hold meetings for "the communication and discussion of discoveries and observations, an account of which shall be published by the Society".

1847, The Chemical Society importance was recognised by a Royal Charter, adding to the Societies role in the advancement of science and development of chemical applications in industry. Membership was open to all those interested in chemistry.[2]
