"Lt.-Cdr. CHARLES REGINALD ABBOTT, M.B.E., was closely associated with the motor industry throughout his professional career and at the time of his death, on 26th November 1950, had been the proprietor and managing director of Messrs. C. R. Abbott and Company, Ltd., London, automobile agents and repairers, for nearly twenty years.
He was born in 1884 and educated at the Dean Close School, Cheltenham, and the Bristol Engineering College. After two years' practical training with the Motor Manufacturing Company, Ltd., Coventry, he spent a similar period in the motor vehicle department of Messrs. J. J. Thornycroft and Company, Ltd., Chiswick.
Other firms who utilized his services were Messrs. Arnott and Holloway, and Messrs. W. L. Stewart and Company, Ltd., for which he was engaged as works manager of the repair and service department. For some twelve years he acted as sales director for the Curtis Automobile Co and Messrs. Lancia Cars, Ltd., before establishing his firm at Acton in 1931.
During the 1914-18 war Commander Abbott served first in the Royal Naval Air Service and later in the Royal Flying Corps. He had been a Member of the Institution of Automobile Engineers since 1943; and in the 1939-45 war he served in the R.N.V.A. with the rank of lieutenant-commander."
