CHARLES LLOYD STEPHENSON FOURACRES attended the Government Engineering College and Workshops at Seebpore, Calcutta, where he gained experience in the engineering shops and drawing office.
He then joined the Eastern Bengal State Railway, and in 1889 he was appointed assistant locomotive, carriage, and wagon superintendent and later divisional superintendent.
After twenty-eight years' service in various districts as responsible officer he retired in 1917.
He was then appointed by the Ministry of Munitions to the Carriage Inspection Department during the War and was employed in the Manchester district testing materials, and in charge of the construction of heavy guns and general artillery equipment.
In 1923 he joined Messrs. Rendel, Palmer and Tritton as resident engineer in Glasgow.
Three years later he was transferred to Dusseldorf in Germany to inspect raw and finished goods for the Burma and Indian State Railways, and he held this position until his death on 7th June 1929, at the age of 65.
Mr. Fouracres became an Associate Member of the Institution in 1926.
