1854 Patent. '618. And Thomas Stephen Holt and Charles Herbert Holt, of the city of Manchester, in the county of Lancaster, Engineers, have given the like notice in respect of the invention of "improvements in steam-boilers."'

1869 July. Drives his traction engine through Huddersfield towing 15-ton stone bound for Longroyd Mill as part of the Starkey Bros contract. (Biggest stone brought to Huddersfield at the time)

1869, Ptent for “improvements in apparatus for obtaining blast in smelting and other furnaces, which improvements are also applicable in injecting air for other purposes”

1870 June. Auction of traction engine, partly built steam omnibus and other machinery, at Lane, Huddersfield

1871 Lodging at boarding house, 11 Great Ducie Street, Manchester.

1871 Patent for “improvements in steam boiler and other furnaces” (application made on same day as Joseph Knowles Broadbent who is mentioned in the 1880 divorce record below!)

1873 April. Sues Starkey Brothers for outstanding payment regarding Longroyd Mill contact

1873 September 20th. Married(2) Hannah Dale, 57 Great Ducie Street, Manchester

1875 Patent for “praying for letters patent for the invention of steam boilers was deposited and recorded in the offices of the commissioners on 13th day of July 1875 and a complete specification accompanying such petition was at the same time filed in the said office” with Charles John Galloway

1875 September. Explosion of patented ‘economiser’ at factory of T. Haigh and Sons, Colne Bridge, Huddersfield

1875 Patent. 'In-the Matter of Letters Patent granted to Charles John Galloway, of the Knott Mill. Iron Works, Manchester, in the county of Lancaster, Engineer, and Charles Herbert Holt, of Manchester aforesaid, Engineer, for the invention of " improvements in steam boilers," bearing date at Westminster the 13th July, 1875 (No. 2514).

1876 Patent for “an invention of a new or improved method of and apparatus for steaming or blowing woven fabrics in the process of dyeing and finishing” with Oates Ingham

1880 December 10th. Petition for divorce from Hannah Holt (nee Dale) on grounds of adultery with Joseph Knowles Broadbent

1881 February. Found in contempt of court having abducted daughter Florence and fled to America

1881 March 21st. Arrives at the Port of Philadelphia, PA, USA on the S.S. Pennsylvania, American Lines

1885 Patent for “grate for boiler furnaces”

1885 Patent for “tube cleaner for fuel economizers or feed water heaters”

1887 Patent for “feed water heater”

1887 December 21st. Died of apoplexy and is buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Philadelphia, PA, USA
