"CHARLES HENRY DAY, whose death in his seventy-second year occurred on 2nd February 1952, was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1918. He was educated at Regent Street Polytechnic, the Goldsmiths' Institute, and Finsbury Technical College. He served an apprenticeship between 1896 and 1902 with [[Thornycroft|J. I. Thornycroft and Company, Ltd]]., Chiswick, and with [[Siemens Brothers and Co|Siemens Brothers, Ltd]]., Woolwich. He was then employed for a brief period by [[Thornycroft and C. Markham and Co|Thornycroft and C. Markham and Company, Ltd]]., Chesterfield, as a fitter and erector before going to sea as marine engineer. In the course of nine years' service he rose from fifth to senior engineer and obtained an extra first-class Board of Trade Certificate. "CHARLES HENRY DAY, whose death in his seventy-second year occurred on 2nd February 1952, was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1918.
