Charles Burrell (1847-1929) of Charles Burrell and Sons
One of three sons of Charles Burrell, who entered actively into the business of Charles Burrell and Sons in the 1870s.
Went to Thetford grammar school, and then to King's College, London.
After initial training in the firm he became a general manager
Under his leadership the firm grew from about 200 employees in 1870 to 400 in 1913
Charles Burrell was engaged in the civic life of Thetford and was elected to the council in 1874 and served continuously for the fifty-five years until his death. He was mayor seven times, and was a justice of the peace for the borough and the county.
He was a member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, and of the council of the Smithfield Club from 1916 to 1925.
1873 He was married Sarah Annie Thomas (d. 1910)
1912 He married secondly to Annie Phillis Wilberforce (who survived her husband).
He died at Thetford on 12 November 1929.

CHARLES BURRELL was born at Thetford in 1847 and after completing his education at King's College, London, joined the firm of Messrs. Charles Burrell and Sons, constructors of heavy road locomotives.
From 1906 until a few years ago, when the business was transferred, he was chairman of the company.
He was Mayor of Thetford on seven occasions, first holding this office in 1877.
He became a Member of the Institution in 1878, and was 81 years of age at the time of his death on 12th November 1929.
