c.1822 Fitted the PS Tartar with steam engines and sailed across the Bay of Biscay, the first steam-powered vessel to do so.
1828 The executor of the estate of Charles Broderip (of Spring Gardens) patented a form of engine which was similar to the later trunk engine of Francis Humphrys
