1874 Built by Mitchell and Co as a telegraph-cable-laying vessel for Siemens Brothers.[1]

The special fittings relating to the cable were arranged by Siemens Brothers and Co .

The bilge keels were designed by William Froude.[2]

1923 A replacement cable ship of the same name was built for Siemens Brothers.
