1973 the Gas Council was abolished and the British Gas Corporation was established. Major reorganisation including renaming the Area Gas Boards as Regions.

1984 In preparation for privatisation, the oil producing assets of British Gas were put into a separate company, Enterprise Oil

1986 The assets of the British Gas Corporation were transferred to British Gas plc. In November 1986, shares in British Gas plc were offered for sale on the stockmarket.

1997 British Gas plc demerged to form three separate companies: Centrica plc, BG plc and Transco plc. Centrica took over gas sales and gas trading, services and retail businesses, together with the gas production operations in the North and South Morecambe gas fields (Rampside Gas Terminal).
