Subsidiary of British Insulated Cables
Only copper refinery of its kind in Britain, with an output of 150 tons of high-conductivity copper per day. A reverberatory furnace using pulverized fuel produces the copper from blister "pigs" imported from Rhodesia, the molten metal being tapped into a ladle and poured into moulds carried on a revolving wheel for the production of wire bars. Directly above the furnace is a waste-heat boiler producing process steam at 150 lb. per sq. in., which is supplied to the parent company.
