1974 Formation of British Airways Group incorporating BOAC and BEA which were then dissolved.
1976 The world’s first passenger supersonic services were inaugurated simultaneously by British Airways to Bahrain and Air France to Rio de Janeiro via Dakar. Concorde flights to Washington Dulles started later that year, but problems with noise levels delayed operations to New York.
1977 Concorde services started to New York JFK, and later to Singapore as an extension of the Bahrain service.
1987 British Airways plc was privatised. Merger with British Caledonian as it was in fina
1990 Plans announced to develop a new aircraft engineering base at Cardiff Airport to carry out heavy maintenance on the airline’s growing fleet of Boeing 747s (opened in 1993).
1994 Concorde services to Washington were discontinued.
1999 First service into London City Airport by a British Regional Airlines aircraft.
2011 British Airways and Iberia merged, creating the International Airlines Group.
