Furniture maker of High Wycombe
Charles William Birch was apprenticed at age 13 to his grandfather's business William Birch.
1920s Charles left Birchs to set up Birch and Alpe because he didn’t have "parity of esteem" with Walter Birch’s son. Alpe was his wife’s maiden name.
Made high class upholstery – 3 piece suites – and furniture for shipping lines, including the Queen Mary.
Employed around 40.
c.1959 After closure the factory was let out to Tyzaks (sic).
