Postum Foods, a Californian company, introduced a ready-made mayonnaise, Best Foods Mayonnaise, which became popular on the West Coast of the USA.

1927 Postum Foods bought the Hellmann's brand of mayonnaise, developed and sold on the East Coast of the USA. As both brands of mayonnaise had such commanding market shares in their respective halves of the country, the company decided that both brands and recipes be preserved in their respective territories.

1955 Bestfoods acquired Rosefield Packing Co., makers of Skippy peanut butter.

1958 Corn Products Refining Company acquired Bestfoods to form Corn Products Company

1969 The Corn Products Co became CPC International Inc. The British subsidiary was CPC (United Kingdom).

1997 CPC International was split into two companies: Bestfoods, again (including the Hellmann's brand), and Corn Product International, currently known as Ingredion.

2000 Bestfoods was acquired by Unilever [1]
