1871 Company launched for the manufacture of Bessemer steel and ordnance in London, at the premises in (East) Greenwich where Henry Bessemer had established plant; the land and plant was to be leased by the new company; this location was considered to give the company advantages because the nearest steel plant was 130 miles away. Sir John Lubbock and Henry Bessemer junior were trustees[1]
1872 Visit by members of the Society of Engineers saw the early stage of erection of the plant, said to be at Cubitt Town[2].
1873 Public meeting of the company[3]
1873 Exhibited steel rails, tyres, etc at the Vienna Universal Exhibition[4]; awarded diploma of honour
1874 Petition by creditors to wind up the company[5]
