1868 Legal case. Scott vs. Beresford Engineering Co. '...The plaintiff is a practical moulder, living at Greenheys, Manchester, and the defendants are a limited liability company, carrying on business as manufacturers of machines at Portwood, near Stockport. In October, 1865, plaintiff obtained a patent for improvements in an apparatus for moulding tooth and other wheels, and it was stated that prior to plaintiff's invention the only machine patented for the purpose of making wheels was that of Mr. Jackson, whose patent dated from 1844. That machine, however, was not portable and was very expensive, its manufacture costing at least £2,000 for each machine.
