Benecke and Shears, zinc spelters, of Loughor, nr Swansea
1824 Frederick Benecke of Deptford, Daniel Towers Shears and James Henry Shears of Fleet Market, London, coppersmiths, were granted a patent on smelting and distillation of zinc. This used the Silesian rather than the English process.
1824-5 Established zinc works at Loughor, on the banks of the River Burry, possibly on the site of an earlier works established by George Pengree c.1800
1825 The partnership was dissolved and the works offered for sale but it is not clear whether it was sold.
1833 The works were probably out of production by this date
