1825 The distillery was established by Angus McDonnell in the shadow of Britain's highest mountain

1830 John McDonald (1799-1856), became a partner. He was known as "Long John" on account of his height and this nickname became strongly associated with the business. After his death, the business continued under Donald Peter McDonald (1835-1891), trading as D.P. Macdonald and Sons
