Carries a road across the River Crouch in Battlebridge, Essex.
A cast iron bridge replaced the ancient stone bridge in 1855. This was destroyed by a passing traction engine in 1871, and was replaced in 1871 by a new bridge having a central span of cast iron arches,, with two masonry jack arches. It was designed by the County Surveyor, Henry Stock, and built by William Webster of London.[1]
Geograph entry here shows that the bridge has been strengthened. Pragmatism has trumped elegance in this case.
