Ashford Carbonell Bridge
A small masonry bridge at Ashford Carbonell in Shropshire
The first known example of Thomas Telford using the technique of "hollow spandrel construction" (i.e. a space above the curve of an arch). The arch has a span of 24.7m and a rise of 7.3m.
1795 Telford designed the segmental single-span arch bridge.
1797 The bridge opened.
Currently the bridge carries a minor road from Ashford Carbonell west to the A49 over the River Teme south of Ludlow.
