Sir ARTHUR LUCAS was born in London in 1845, and died on 9th January 1922, at the age of seventy-six.
He was educated at University College School and College, and entered the profession of Civil Engineering as a pupil of Sir John Hawkshaw.
He was afterwards associated with Sir John Wolfe Barry and worked with him for several years, especially in connexion with railway construction.
About 1880 he joined the Board of the Imperial Continental Gas Association and later that of the Continental Union Gas Co., and was Deputy Chairman of both companies at the time of his death.
He took a very keen interest in the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children, on the Committee of which he served as Chairman for thirty years. For these services he received the honour of knighthood in 1919.
He became a Member of this Institution in 1873.
