Arthur George Mumford (1852-1933), founder of A. G. Mumford
1852 Born in Cosford, Suffolk, son of George Mumford, farmer.[1]
1867-71 Apprentice with Robert Boby of Bury St Edmunds
1871 Started at the Works of Richard Garrett and Sons of Leiston
1872 Went to work for Mr John Garrett in Buckau, Prussia, where he was later put in charge of the works.
1877 Returned to England where he set up his own business making iron work for sewerage undertakings, pumping machinery for waterworks and small marine engines - see A. G. Mumford
1881 Arthur G. Mumford 29, engineer, lived in Lavenham with his mother Annie Mumford 64, widow, and George B. Mumford 33, Ellen M. Mumford 31, Horace R. Mumford 27, Charles E. Mumford 24, Leonard Mumford 20[2]
By 1884 was employing about 100 hands
1885 Became an Associate Member of the Inst Civil Engineers[3]
1893 An engineer, when he married Clara Beatrice Isabelle Campbell in Kew[4]
1911 Arthur George Mumford 52, engineer, employer, lived in Colchester, with Beatrice Mumford 40, Violet Mumford 11[5]
1933 Died in Colchester[6]
