ARTHUR GEORGE LUKE died suddenly at Eastbourne on the 12th July, 1911. Having gained the Associateship of King’s College, London, in 1862, he served an apprenticeship to the late Mr. Robert Sinclair on the Great Eastern Railway, and later was engaged on survey and parliamentary work and the preparation of a land plan for that company, and as Resident Engineer on several Great Western branches.
He acted as Resident Engineer for the late Sir John Hawkshaw, Past-President, on the construction of the Severn Tunnel, and as contractor’s agent on the Manchester Ship Canal, retiring from active work in 1891.
Mr. Luke was elected a Member of The Institution on the 7th December, 1880.
