ARTHUR ERIC DEVEY, whose tragic death at the early age of 29 years occurred as the result of a motor-cycle accident at Sale, Manchester, on 18th October 1932, was entering upon a particularly promising career.
He had rendered valuable service to the Institution in the capacity of Honorary Secretary of the Graduates' Section of the North Western Branch during the years 1928 to 1931. In conjunction with Mr. B. Hodkinson, A.M.I.Mech.E., Mr. Devey had recently contributed to the Proceedings a Paper on "The Amount of Decrease of Nozzle Efficiency caused by Non-Uniformity of Velocity Distribution."
Mr. Devey commenced his technical training at the Northampton College of Engineering, London, and obtained his B.Sc. degree with Honours. At the time of his death he was engaged in writing a thesis for his M.Sc. degree. He later joined the Metropolitan-Vickers Electrical Company, Manchester, where he was engaged upon turbine research work.
Mr. Devey became a Student of the Institution in 1924 and was elected an Associate Member in 1931.
