Arthur Collings Wells (c1858-1922) of Frank Pearn, Wells and Co and founder of A. C. Wells and Co. Also director of Chelmsford Brewery and the Unbreakable Pulley and Mill Gearing Co.

c1858 Born the son of Joseph Wells, of Woodhouse, Little Waltham

1879 Married in Reading to Caroline Mary Eisdell.[1]

1881 Arthur C. Wells 23, engineering employer, speciality ...caster and agent, living in Rusholme, Lancs, with Caroline M. Wells 25, John S. Wells[2]

1891 Arthur C Wells 33, engineering merchant, employer, lived in Mill Hill, Hendon with Carroline M Wells 35, Russel P Wells 8, Bertha Wells 7, Alice M Wells 5, Leonard C Wells 2[3]

1901 Living at Caddington Hall, Markyate, Herts: Arthur Collings Wells (age 43 born Broomfield, Essex), Mechanical Engineer - Employer. With his wife Caroline Mary Wells (age 45 born Colchester) and their five children; John Stanhope Wells (age 20 born Lancs.); Russell Primrose Wells (age 18 born Lancs.); Mabel Bertha Wells (age 17 born Lancs.); Alice Madelene Wells (age 15 born Lancs.); and Leonard Collings Wells (age 11 born Mill Hill). Six servants.[4]

1922 May 11th. Died. Probate. Of Brands House, near High Wycombe, and 102-105 Midland Road, St. Pancras. Probate to Caroline Mary Wells, Widow; Russell primrose Collings-Wells, retired Lt-Col in Army; and Francis William Watson, civil engineer.

1922 'Mr. Arthur Collings Wells, of High Wycombe, director of Chelmsford Brewery and the Unbreakable Pulley and Mill Gearing Co., left the medals (including the V.C. and the D.S.0.) of his late son, Lieut.-Col. John Stanhope Collings Wells, to his son, Russell Primrose Wells, to devolve as heirlooms.'[5]

1922 Will. 'Mr. Arthur Collings Wells, of Brands House, High Wycombe, Bucks, and of Midland Road, St. Pancras, W.C, son of the late Mr. Joseph Wells, of Woodhouse, Little Waltham. a nephew the late Mr. Henry Wells, and a cousin of Mr. Clement Wells, of Writtle, a director of Chelmsford Brewery (Wells and Perry) Ltd., who died on May 11, aged 64, left estate of the gross value £82,327, with net personalty £68.034. The testator left: The medals (including the V.C. and the D.S.0.), of his late son, Lieut.-Colonel John Stanhope Collings Wells, to his son, Russell Primrose Wells, to devolve as heirlooms. £500 for charitable objects in which he was interested, or gifts to persons (including gifts to servants additional to those mentioned) as his wife may think fit, any part not so distributed forming part his residuary estate. £50 to his wife for distribution amongst in or outdoor domestic servants at her discretion. £50 to his business manager, Ernest John Lowe. One month's wages to each clerk, traveller, foreman, or warehouseman, five years' service, not specifically mentioned.'[6]
