ARCHIBALD HAMILTON, born at Motherwell on the 16th January, 1851, died at Glasgow on the 24th July, 1913.
He served his apprenticeship to Mr. Mortimer Evans, of Glasgow, and in 1872 joined the staff of the Clyde Navigation Trustees, in whose service he remained until his death, a period of 40 years.
At first an assistant under the late Mr. Deas, he was later placed in charge of new works, and in 1900 became Assistant Engineer, Mr. W. M. Alston being Chief Engineer. Mr. Hamilton carried out a number of dock and quay works, built workshops at Renfrew, and supervised the dredging operations of the Trust.
He was elected a Member of The Institution on the 6th March, 1888.
