ARCHIBALD ALEXANDER SWAN, B.Sc. (Glas.), born at Maryhill, near Glasgow, on the 6th February, 1857, died in Glasgow on the 12th February, 1911.
In 1887 he went out to Singapore, where, independently and as head of the firm of Swan and Maclaren, he carried out surveys, constructed roads, railways, buildings, piers and other works throughout the Malay Peninsula, and in Johore, Borneo and Sumatra. He was also connected with oilfields and copper mines, and was Chairman of the Caucasus Copper Company.
Mr. Swan was elected an Associate Member of The Institution on the 14th April, 1885, and was transferred to the class of Members on the 19th May, 1896.
