Arbroath and Forfar Railway

Linked the two towns with a link to Almericloss with a total length of just over fifteen miles.

1836 Company was incorporated to build a railway from the Scottish Midland at Forfar to the harbour at Arbroath. All property leased to the Caledonian Railway Company [1]

1839 The line opened in full with a 5ft 6in gauge and locomotives from the Dundee Foundry Co

1848 the line was leased to the Aberdeen Railway [2]

1849 The line was opened on January 3rd.[3]

1856 Scottish Midland Junction Railway absorbed the line on 29 July 1856.

1923 Became part of London, Midland and Scottish Railway [4]
